SNG, CNG and LNG Production Using COG
UNE experts are the earliest who developed the technology of methanation reaction of coke oven gas, the earliest who completed the experiment of producing natural gas from methanation reaction of coke oven gas, and the first to successfully finish the whole process and get patent.
Coke oven gas is combustible by-product produced during coal coking. Its main components include H2 (50% - 59%), CH4 (21% - 28%), CO (6% - 12%), CO2 (2% - 5%), N2 (2% - 5%) and very small quantity of oxygen, benzene, naphthalene, ammonia, tar, sulfide and cyanide.
With coke oven gas as raw material, after purification and removal of benzene, naphthalene, sulfide and other impurities, and after methanation reaction under the action of catalyst, CO, CO2 and H2 are converted into rich methane gas mainly containing CH4, H2 and N2.
Synthetic natural gas (SNG) containing more than 85% of CH4 is produced after H2 is separated from rich methane gas using gas separation technology. SNG can be further processed and compressed to produce compressed natural gas (CNG), or be liquefied to get liquefied natural gas (LNG).
As industry leader, UNE has:
- Completed the first natural gas production factory by methanation reaction of coke oven gas from a coking plant of one million tons production capacity;
- Completed the first set of modularized 10000Nm3/h natural gas production factory by methanation reaction of coke oven gas.
Advantages of UNE technologies are:
- Innovative technology of producing SNG, CNG, and LNG at the same time;
- Innovative technology of combining both high temperature and low temperature methanation;
- Innovative technology of high temperature cycling methanation.
